A 15-year-old boy faces nearly a dozen felony charges of armed robbery after authorities linked him to 11 robberies that occurred in a single August night, according to Chicago police.
Police arrested the unidentified youth Monday in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side as one of multiple people suspected of participating in the thefts, authorities said. The teen faces juvenile charges, but his initial court date before a Juvenile Court judge was unclear.
Police said the robberies occurred in Englewood, Garfield Park, Austin, Auburn Gresham, Grand Crossing, McKinley Park and Bridgeport between 12:30 a.m. and 5:40 a.m. on Aug. 20. Police said the victims ranged in age from 22 to 54.
Chicago has recently seen an uptick in robberies and motor vehicle thefts, particularly on the West Side. Many of the suspects involved in the thefts are minors, police officials said.
