Progressives turned a NYC subway underpass into hell

The pro-crime policies beloved by New York’s left have created yet another little piece of dystopia right here in the Big Apple.

A Bronx subway underpass has become a haven for addicts who use intravenous drugs openly and the small-time dealers who feed their murderous habit — leaving residents, especially those with kids, too frightened to cross this once-public space.

“I wouldn’t recommend anyone going down into that underpass because you don’t know what’s going to happen to you,” said one local mother of a young child about the stretch of East Kingsbridge Road that runs below Grand Concourse and gives crucial access to a D line stop.

Proof positive that, as much as progressives in the Legislature and City Council claim to stand up for the marginalized, their policies again and again end up harming less-affluent, largely black and Latino communities.

Catch-and-release bail policies ensure dealers and addicts stay on the street until they graduate to serious assault and murder.

A Health Department hell-bent on normalizing addiction and public drug use adds to the social chaos.

Factor in a police force desperately understaffed and deeply demoralized by pols who signal their own cop-hatred loud and proud.

The result?

A city in which “no one’s coming to save you, that’s for sure,” as that mother memorably put it.

That’s true when it comes to the Department of Transportation, to which City Councilman Oswald Feliz sent a fiery November letter over its total inaction against the chaos.

The DoT chose to hide behind bureaucratic obfuscation: “The complex challenges require a multi-agency approach.”

And the alphabet soup of other city agencies (including NYPD) who have been involved doesn’t seem to have been effective either, though per Feliz they have at least done more than DoT.

The solutions, however, are not complicated. Though they do require real willpower.

Send in the cops.

Clear the place out.

And lather, rinse, repeat ’til the lowlifes get the lesson: not here.

Sadly, Whack-a-mole is the only response until our progressive overlords in Albany (or our spineless governor) wake up and realize the damage they’ve done.
