The new Punta Mar restaurant celebrated a grand opening on June 27 on S. Coast Highway 101 in Encinitas. Part of Mexico’s 35-restaurant Group Gula, Punta Mar serves up flavorful authentic Mexican seafood, street food and cocktails, some served in coconuts.
The new eatery replaced the former Pina.
The menu includes fish tacos, a raw bar with oysters and ceviche, and speciality dishes such as pizza birria and Galician Octopus, marinated and grilled and served on a bed of crispy potatoes and onions.
With a tagline of “michelada craft kings”, Punta Mar’s creative cocktail menu features a rainbow of micheladas from the traditional clamato to lime-cucumber to mango to coconut to watermelon. A standout is the Michelada Barracruda, served with an octopus tentacles skewer.
Punta Mar is located at 345 S. Coast Highway 101, Encinitas. Open Sunday to Wednesday 1 to 10 p.m. and Thursday to Saturday 1 p.m. to midnight. Visit puntamarsd.com, instagram.com/puntamarsd
