The Las Vegas Raiders could be in the market for a quarterback this offseason, with reports indicating it’s expected that Jimmy Garoppolo will be cut ahead of free agency.
The Raiders are reportedly considering trading up in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft in order to select a young quarterback, according to Tashan Reed and Vic Tafur of The Athletic.
The report says that Las Vegas may not be able to move into any of the top three slots, as the Chicago Bears, Washington Commanders and New England Patriots are all anticipated to be targeting quarterbacks, too.
The team is believed to be enamored with LSU standout and 2023 Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels, though it’s possible—if not likely—that he will be selected in the top three.
Additionally, the report indicates that general manager Tom Telesco has discussed a potential deal with the teams selecting in the Nos. 5–7 range: the Los Angeles Chargers, New York Giants and Tennessee Titans. In that scenario, Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy would reportedly be an option for the Raiders.
As it stands, the Las Vegas owns the 13th pick in the upcoming draft, though strengthening the quarterbacks room—potentially by trading up—amid the looming departure of Garoppolo seems likely to be a priority this offseason.
