Food TV lovers, there’s a brand new show to look forward to.

Apple TV+ will debut Omnivore on July 19, a food and culture series created and narrated by René Redzepi of Noma fame.

In each episode, the Copenhagen-based chef and proud omnivore (this is the guy who charged hundreds of dollars to feed guests insects) travels the world on a culinary odyssey. Each episode focuses on an ingredient essential to food and culture in various parts of the world: bananas, chile, coffee, corn, pork, rice, salt, and tuna.

Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat, much? Everything is derivative. The series is executive-produced by Matt Goulding, the Emmy Award-winning producer of Anthony Bourdain: Explore Parts Unknown, which ran for two seasons on CNN. Episodes of Omnivore were filmed in Denmark, Serbia, Thailand, Spain, Japan, Djibouti, Peru, South Korea, France, Colombia, India, Bali, Rwanda, Mexico, and locations throughout the United States. Redzepi ventures to showcase culinary traditions and highlight conservation and sustainability efforts across the world.

Omnivore is a decade-long dream finally brought to life, and I couldn’t be prouder of this extraordinary team. This show is a testament to what makes food truly remarkable—the ingredients, the people, the stories, the sheer magic of cooking,” René Redzepi shared in a statement provided to Food & Wine. ”Omnivore isn’t just a food show; it’s a journey into the soul of food culture and its vibrant community. Through the lens of eight unique ingredients, we traverse our delicious planet and meet the diverse people who inhabit it. We’ve trekked across five continents, unearthing countless stories along the way. This journey has reinforced one undeniable truth: food is everything. You can tell any story worth telling through what we cook and how we eat. Because food is never just food; it’s a window into our lives, our history, and our world.”

Apple TV+ may be a go-to for prestige dramas (Severance, Bad Sisters) and original comedy series (Loot, Ted Lasso), but foodie docuseries are a new endeavor for the streaming platform. In 2023, The Reluctant Traveler with Eugene Levy debuted with eight episodes showcasing the Schitt’s Creek comedian traveling the globe.

It’s going to be a big summer for food television. Season 3 of FX’s The Bear drops on Hulu on June 27, and season two of Food Network’s Ciao House just came out on Max. Top Chef’s twenty-first season also has two more episodes to air this June, in which competitors cook on a cruise ship, this first in Top Chef’s long history.
