The Rancho Santa Fe Historical Society held a Speaker Series event on July 11 featuring Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, country rock pioneer and author Chris Hillman who told his stories about growing up in Rancho Santa Fe in the 1950s and ’60s, and presented his autobiographical book “Time Between: My Life as a Byrd, Burrito Brother, and Beyond.” (Hillman’s parents published the Rancho Santa Fe Times.)
The event was held at The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe (Croquet Cottage) and included light refreshments.
In “Time Between,” Hillman shares his Southern Californian experience, from an idyllic, rural 1950s childhood to achieving worldwide fame thanks to hits such as “Mr. Tambourine Man,” “Turn! Turn! Turn!,” “So You Want to Be a Rock ‘n’ Roll Star,” and “Eight Miles High.”
Hillman’s book describes the groundbreaking years when he joined Roger McGuinn, David Crosby, Gene Clark and Michael Clarke to form The Byrds, creating one of the most influential bands in the history of rock music, a news release stated. They were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1991.
