The rapper shared “Back in Love” with Devin Malik and “Blueslides” from his first record in nearly five years, which is set for release on March 1
For 24 hours only, Schoolboy Q is offering a glimpse into the world of Blue Lips, his first studio album in nearly five years, set for release on March 1. The rapper, who announced the album with a trailer featuring its apparent track list, has yet to share any official singles from the project. But just for today, listeners can tap into “Blueslides” and “Back in Love,” a collaboration with Devin Malik.
The two songs have been uploaded to YouTube with fully developed visuals. In the clip for “Blueslides,” Schoolboy Q raps in solitude while images flash across the screen depicting intricate art installations and scene-setting footage. “Blueslides” has been interpreted as a tribute to the late rapper Mac Miller, who released the album Blue Slide Park in 2011.
Similar to the album announcement preview, the “Blueslides” video concludes with an overlay of a definition, this time for “Blue Slides,” while the other was for “Blue Lips.” The definition slides appear once again in the video for “Back in Love.” But in that clip, Schoolboy Q is no longer on his own. He delivers the song in front of a man holding up a poster board that reads the album’s title. Interspersed throughout is home video footage of a group of young boys.
Blue Lips will mark the first album release from Schoolboy Q since CrasH Talk, which came out in 2019, and his sixth with Top Dog Entertainment. The rapper has long been a standout artist on the label’s roster alongside the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, SZA, Isaiah Rashad, SiR, and Doechii.
