According to Flightradar24, United Airlines flight 954 reversed direction back to SFO about seven hours into the flight, turning around over Greenland. The flying time was about 13 hours. Flightradar24 wrote on social media on Oct. 7 that this was “the longest diversion so far” for any flight connected to Israel.
United told SFGATE in a statement Monday that it operated two scheduled flights out of Tel Aviv on Oct. 7 and Oct. 8. “Our Tel Aviv flights will remain suspended until conditions allow them to resume,” the airline wrote.
In its advisory, the State Department wrote that “violent extremists continue plotting possible attacks in Israel and the West Bank and Gaza” and are “targeting tourist locations, transportation hubs, markets/shopping malls, and local government facilities.”
