SINGAPORE — One person was killed and several injured when a Singapore Airlines Flight SQ321 encountered “severe turbulence” en route from London to Singapore, the company said Tuesday evening local time.

The aircraft, a Boeing 777-300ER, was carrying 211 passengers and 18 crew members. It left London’s Heathrow airport slightly after 10:30 p.m. on Monday night. It was cruising at an altitude of 37,000 feet as it passed the western coast of Myanmar when it suddenly dropped to 31,000 feet in a span of minutes, according to flight data captured by Flightradar24.
