Nicole Hadfield for City Council?
Bird Rock resident Nicole Hadfield, often in the news, should consider running for San Diego City Council or La Jolla Town Council to get official respect for her views (“‘Slow down’ painter in Bird Rock turns to stickers,” June 20, La Jolla Light).
Fifty-five years ago, a young San Diegan, Maureen O’Connor, then 25, was upset at the city’s insensitivity to Indian performers it had for a fiesta in Old Town and got nowhere with the city.
So [two years later] she ran for council against Steve Cushman of the legendary local family.
She won, got the city’s attention, went on to marry Jack in the Box founder Robert Peterson and ended up as our mayor.
At 27, I was California’s youngest councilman (San Diego) until her election. I think the voters support someone with an issue like auto safety.
