Q • Although my Southern magnolia has new leaves and flowers, many interior leaves are turning yellow and falling off. What’s causing that, and what should I do?
A • Although Southern magnolias are evergreens, they normally shed older leaves in late spring-early summer.
Magnolia foliage may appear a bit thin this spring due to freeze injury this winter, but as long as your tree is producing new leaves, shedding of older leaves is not concerning at this time of year.
