One person was killed and six others were rushed to a hospital Sunday following a multi-vehicle crash that may have been caused by street racing.

Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched at 11:18 a.m. Sunday to 18153 W. Vanowen St. in Reseda.

The crash involved at least four vehicles and two additional parked vehicles.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, a white Dodge Charger and a yellow Chevrolet Camaro were speeding on the eastbound lanes of Vanowen Street approaching Chimineas Avenue. The Dodge changed lanes and collided with the Chevrolet, causing both vehicles to lose control and collide with multiple other vehicles.

The driver of the Camaro died on the scene after being trapped inside the vehicle. They have only been identified as a 32-year-old man.

The driver of the Dodge, identified as 21-year-old Nicolas Velasco Marcos, was arrested and booked for murder with bail set at $2 million.

He was also transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Crews used the jaws of life to free two other people who were trapped inside their vehicle.

Eleven people were evaluated at the scene and six people were rushed to a hospital, authorities said. Four people declined transport to a hospital.

The crash also left a fire hydrant sheared, which sent water gushing through the street.

People in the area say this is happening way too often and say Vanowen street is turning into a racetrack.

“It happens like once a week. I guess we need more lights on this street at night and probably that will help out a little but more,” said one resident.
