In a Reddit AMA on Monday morning, Taco Bell Chief Marketing Officer Taylor Montgomery broke some exciting news to fans: the Enchirito is coming back.
The fan-favorite burrito-and-enchilada combination first debuted in the early 1970s but was discontinued in 2013. The Enchirito briefly returned to Taco Bell menus last November after fans voted to bring it back, but it lasted only two weeks. Monday, Montgomery shared on Reddit, “I can confirm publicly for the first time that it will be back very soon for a limited time.”
The Taco Bell CMO also shared that the Volcano Menu will make its return on June 29 (June 27 for rewards members), which includes the Volcano Burrito, the Volcano Taco and Lava Sauce. When it first launched in 1995, the Volcano Burrito was a promotional item for the movie “Congo” starring Laura Linney. The burrito features ground beef, rice, cheese, sour cream and crushed nachos stuffed inside a flour tortilla with “Lava Sauce,” or spicy nacho cheese.
In response to one commenter’s pleas to make Taco Bell’s popular Nacho Fries permanent, Montgomery wrote, “This is something we’re working on and hope to do as soon as we can.”
He also shared his personal favorite Taco Bell menu hack: re-creating the discontinued Double Decker Taco by ordering a soft taco with refried beans and a crunchy taco and then wrapping the bean-filled tortilla around the crunchy taco.
Taco Bell recently filed a petition to revoke the “Taco Tuesday” trademark from Taco John’s, the fast food chain that owns it. Montgomery commented on this decision on Reddit, writing, “Taco Tuesday is a common term that people don’t associate with any particular restaurant, it isn’t a trademark at all and can’t be owned by any one person or company. Our goal is to liberate Taco Tuesday so the phrase can be used freely by all who make, sell, eat, and celebrate tacos because when tacos win, we all win.”
