COLLIER COUNTY, Fla . — Collier County detectives arrested a 16-year-old boy for a violent threat to Golden Gate High School.

Collier County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) detectives arrested a former Collier County Public Schools student for a violent school threat made over social media.

The 16-year-old faces second-degree charges with written threats to kill, do bodily injury, conduct a mass shooting or act of terrorism.

CCSO determined the threat was not credible.

According to detectives, the teen admitted to sending the threat but denied having plans to hurt anyone.

A spokesperson for Collier County Public Schools said a former student posted a threat on social media regarding tonight’s football game at Golden Gate High School versus Lely High School.

Golden Gate High School and Lely High School both sent out an email to make parents aware.

Here is the email sent out to parents of students at Golden Gate High School:

Dear Golden Gate High families,

I wanted to make you aware of something that happened. An individual who is not a current CCPS student was arrested for posting a threat on social media referencing tonight’s football game at Golden Gate High School. Law enforcement was made aware of the threat and quickly located the individual. Through their investigation, detectives determined that the threat was NOT credible. Out of an abundance of caution, however, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office will have an enhanced presence at tonight’s game.

Keeping our school safe is our number one priority. This requires all students and parents staying vigilant and making sure if they see or hear something suspicious or threatening, they say something.

We appreciate your trust in our school and the dedicated professionals who work alongside the CCPS administrative team as well as the law enforcement professionals. As always, if you have any questions, please give me a call.

Joe Mikulski

Principal, Golden Gate High School

Out of caution, CCSO said they will have an increased presence at Golden Gate High School’s football game tonight.
