Police said a 17-year-old male from Orland Park was arrested Tuesday morning after being found with a gun near Andrew High School in Tinley Park.
The teen, who is not a student at Andrew, was let into the building, 9001 W. 171st St., shortly before 10 a.m. by a student who opened a side door, but was immediately turned away by a staff member and told to enter through the south entrance, as the school day had already started, according to police.
The teen then began wandering around the east side of the building before leaving the premises, according to a news release from Tinley Park Police.
The Tinley Park Police Department’s school resource officer stationed at Andrew then approached the teen, who had walked off campus, and found a handgun in the boy’s waistband, according to the release.
The incident is still under investigation, and charges are pending in juvenile court, police said.
Consolidated High School District 230 said it is cooperating with police in the investigation.
