Sheriff’s deputies are looking for a hit-and-run driver in a pickup who collided with a 16-year-old boy on an e-bike in San Marcos Tuesday night, leaving him seriously injured.
The teen was riding near the intersection of West Mission Road and Knoll Road around 9 p.m. when he was hit by a white truck. The driver didn’t stop and continued heading east on Mission, sheriff’s Sgt. Chuck Morreale said.
A witness called 911 and emergency responders from nearby Palomar College were first on the scene.
The teen was taken to a hospital, where he’s being treated for major internal injuries, Morreale said.
It was unclear if the teen was hit while riding in the traffic lane or in the bike lane. It is believed he was riding alone.
Deputies found debris in the road and believe the vehicle involved was a lifted white GMC Sierra truck, model years 2019-2021. The truck likely has front-end damage, including a broken headlamp, fender and antenna, officials said.
Morreale said investigators plan to check with local businesses to see if they have surveillance video of the collision.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station at (760) 510-5200.
