The DC Bike Ride is a cyclist’s dream, allowing thousands of bikers of all abilities to cruise around D.C.’s monuments on 20 miles of car-free streets, as the course winds past landmarks including the Tidal Basin, National Mall and Memorial Bridge; around Hains Point; and through Georgetown. The starting line is at West Potomac Park, and the U.S. Capitol serves as a dramatic backdrop for the Finish Festival, featuring food trucks, fitness classes and live music. Riders can bring their own equipment or sign up to rent a bike and helmet. Important note: Riders must pick up the race packets on Thursday or Friday, as there’s no pickup the morning of the race. 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. $35-$99; kids ages 3 to 7 can ride along with an adult free.

Silver Spring Jazz Festival and Rosslyn Jazz Fest

We are fully into festival season, with two free outdoor jazz fests taking place on opposite sides of the Potomac on Saturday. Award-winning singer and actress Dee Dee Bridgewater headlines the 18th annual Silver Spring Jazz Festival, which features two stages of entertainment on Veterans Plaza downtown, and performers including Crush Funk Brass Band and Paul Carr and the Jazz Collective. Silver Spring breweries Denizens, Silver Branch and Third Hill team up for a hyperlocal beer garden. (3 to 10 p.m. silverspringdowntown.com.) Rosslyn’s Gateway Park hosts the 31st Rosslyn Jazz Fest, which stars acclaimed New Orleans jazz-funk quintet Galactic; the Afro-Cuban rhythms of the Pedrito Martínez Group, led by the Cuban-born percussionist; and D.C.’s Oh He Dead and DuPont Brass. The park includes food trucks, lawn games and other activities. (1 to 7 p.m. rosslynva.org.)

Maryland Cider Festival at Two Story Chimney Ciderworks

Apple season is here, and it’s time to visit pick-your-own orchards, savor apple cider doughnuts and sip apple cider. The debut of the Maryland Cider Festival, held at Two Story Chimney’s orchard and cidery in Gaithersburg, features 10 hard cider makers from across the state, including Antietam Ciderworks, Brothers Ridge Cider, Chesapeake Cider Co. and Sapwood Cellars, which might be better known for its beer but also crafts beverages with apples. Tickets include 20 samples of cider, while the day promises live music, a marketplace with local makers and food trucks. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. $35-$40.

Happy Daze Vintage Market at Hook Hall

The clothing, home goods and vinyl records market returns with more than 20 vintage vendors and a giveaway sponsored by upcoming music festival All Things Go. Expect merch from this year’s and past years’ festivals, plus live music by local artists. Drinks and food are available at the bar. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free.

Foggy Bottom Twilight Sculpture Walk

The Arts in Foggy Bottom Outdoor Sculpture Biennial features 13 pieces of public art, located around the neighborhood west of the Foggy Bottom-GWU Metro station. They include meditative sculptures with cowrie shells and wind chimes, a golden-topped obelisk decorated with hieroglyphics, and an altar inspired by the Mexican Day of the Dead. While the pieces are on display through Oct. 21, this weekend features a chance to explore them while listening to new music composed by Foggy Bottom resident Michael J. Evans and performed by National Symphony Orchestra violist Jennifer Mondie. The walking tour begins at 7 p.m. at the corner of New Hampshire Avenue and I Street NW, led by curator Jarvis DuBois. 7 p.m. Free.

Souls Seeking Freedom Walking Tour: The Untold Story of the Enslaved of Montpelier

September is International Underground Railroad Month, and historic sites across the region are sharing the tales of men and women who freed themselves from slavery. In Prince George’s County, the 18th-century Montpelier House Museum hosts a walking tour examining the lives of those who were enslaved at the plantation, discussing how they lived and resisted, and sharing research about how they may have arrived here. 1 to 2:30 p.m. $5 county residents; $10 nonresidents.

First Amendment Fest at the Wharf

The Freedom Forum — the foundation dedicated to the First Amendment and the former operators of the Newseum — celebrates the freedoms of speech and the press, the right to assembly, the right to petition the government and the freedom from established religion during this day-long gathering at the Wharf. Among the talks: The Onion’s head writer Mike Gillis discusses how the publication is protected when poking fun at politicians, and former NFL player Nate Boyer talks about Colin Kaepernick, whom he advised to take a knee rather than sitting during the national anthem. There’s also comedy from Rahmein Mostafavi and Ron Funches; live music from JWX: The Jarreau Williams Experience; and a family section with games, a scavenger hunt, face painting and other activities. 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Free.
