Art of Elan presents “Maps and Memories”: As part of Mingei’s “Washi Transformed” exhibit, San Diego Children’s Choir performs works by Ilse Weber, as well as “Six Japanese Gardens” for solo percussion by Kaija Saariaho, and the Hausmann Quartet performing Kojiro Umezaki’s “(Cycles) What falls must rise” for shakuhachi, string quartet and electronics. 7 p.m. Thursday. Murder Masquerade: At this After Dark: Murder Masquerade, attendees wear masquerade attire and are immersed in a thrilling murder mystery that unfolds during the evening. Participants can use their detective skills to “unravel the web of secrets” and uncover the suspect. There will be craft activities, specialty cocktails and an orchestra performing covers of top hits. There will be trick-or-treating throughout the museum on Halloween with candy stations at each exhibit. Adults 21 and older can have free cocktails and show off their best costumes that evening. San Diego Ballet presents ‘Sleeping Beauty’: In Storybook Land, characters from Puss ‘n Boots to Little Red Riding Hood celebrate the birth of Princess Aurora, who one day will need the kiss of a prince to awaken her. Pageantry, beauty, and humor combine in an engaging ballet that stars Stephanie Maiorano in the pivotal role. Haunted Ghost Town: This haunted experience will transport visitors back to the Gold Rush era and the doomed mining town of Bitter Gulch. The ghost town tour features storytelling based on local legends and the dark history of the Gold Rush, and bone-chilling performances by professionally trained actors in period costumes. 5 to 8:45 p.m. Friday through Sunday and Oct. 27-30. Spooky campout: The seventh annual Spooky Camp-o-Ween is back. Check in Friday and pick up creepy crafts, then listen to and tell spooky stories around the campfire. Bella Vita Fest debuts this weekend: Italian culture is at the heart of this new festival in Little Italy, which is scheduled to take place within Italian Heritage Month. Color in a New Light Experience: In collaboration with local scientists, Fleet Science Center is debuting a new exhibit that examines the science of color, light and darkness. Filipino Arts and Culture Summit: Maraya Performing Arts will host this summit and blood drive in celebration of Filipino History Month.
