The Most Popular Costco Alcohol Purchases in Each State

Costco is a place that’s about so much more than $1.50 hot dogs and the odd Le Creuset deal here and there. Yes, here, you can pick up a truly immeasurable amount of toilet paper and a tub of peanut butter so large you can swim in it, but there’s one more thing you can snag — alcohol. Lots of it. But at Costco, you can also find quality liquor too (we’re looking at you, Screaming Eagle). But which bevvy is your state’s favorite to snag at Costco? Test Casinos did the work to find out.

In June, the website released its list of the most popular Costco alcohols by state after collecting and analyzing data from Google Trends across the U.S. between 2019 to 2024. It collected data on 50 popular alcohols available at Costco, sourcing data from CostcoFDB, 20SomethingFinance, Eat This Not That, and Cheapism.

And after looking at all that information, the website found some interesting patterns — and that we all have more in common than we think. At least when it comes to our drinks of choice.

According to the findings, Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Indiana, and Nebraska prefer a whiskey drink over any other alcohol. Specifically, Alabama goes for Crown Royal Canadian Whiskey, while Arkansas and Rhode Island pick up Chivas Regal 12-Year-Old Scotch Whiskey, Colorado and Massachusetts go for Kirkland Signature 12-Year Blended Scotch, and Connecticut, Indiana, and Nebraska purchase Johnnie Walker Black Label Scotch Whiskey.

Meanwhile, Arizona, Missouri, and Wisconsin reach for vodka, specifically Kirkland Signature French Vodka, while California prefers Smirnoff Vodka and New Jersey goes for Kirkland Signature American Vodka.

If you’re looking for someone to make you a gin cocktail, you may want to visit Delaware, Idaho, South Dakota, and Utah, which show preferences for Kirkland Signature London Dry Gin, while Minnesota, Tennessee, and Virginia, like Tanqueray Dry Gin, and Oklahoma, Oregon, and Pennsylvania have their sights on Hendrick’s Gin.

Looking for a rum or tequila? Georgia and Illinois like their Captain Morgan Spiced Rum, while Florida and West Virginia like to sip on Kirkland Signature Tequila Reposado, and Kansas is another  Kirkland fan with its Signature Tequila Blanco.

Liqueurs can be found in the carts of shoppers in Louisiana and Maine who like their Disaronno Originale Amaretto, while Texans enjoy Kahlua Coffee Liqueur, and Washingtonians prefer Kirkland Signature Irish Cream Liqueur.

As for wine, that’s the favored drink for many states, including Alaska, Hawaii, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, and Wyoming. Want to see which brands they choose for vino? See the full list at testcasinos.org.
