The Old Globe will hit the road again this fall for the ninth year of its Globe for All Tour of free public theater performances at libraries, schools, churches and community centers from Otay Mesa and Tijuana to San Marcos and Oceanside.
This year’s production is William Shakespeare’s 1594 play “The Comedy of Errors,” the wacky mistaken identity tale about two sets of identical twins who were separated at birth and encounter one another as adults. In the Globe’s edition of the play, the setting is inspired by the early 2000s reality TV series “Jersey Shore.”
This play will be directed by Em Weinstein, a writer whose credits include the short film “In France Michelle is a Man’s Name” and the Showtime series “The L Word: Generation Q.”

Over the years, the Globe for All Tour has entertained nearly 16,000 audience members with professional productions of Shakespeare’s plays and Shakespeare-inspired shows performed for diverse multigenerational audiences. Beside the public venues, private performances are also presented at homeless shelters, military bases and in correctional facilities.
Old Globe artistic director Barry Edelstein said the touring show fulfills the company’s mission.

San Diego Musical Theatre unveils 2024 season
San Diego Musical Theatre has announced its four-show season for 2024.
Dates for the productions have not been announced but they will be, in order, “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Legally Blonde,” “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” and “Winter Wonderettes.” There will also be a youth-cast pre-professional production of “13: The Musical.” Tickets will go on sale Sept. 18.
Meanwhile, there are two productions still in the wings for the 2023 season: “The Addams Family Musical,” running Sept. 29-Oct. 29 and “Plaid Tidings” running Nov. 24-Dec. 24. For subscriptions, visit sdmt.org/shows-tickets/subscribe.
OnStage Playhouse announces ‘Mugre’ premiere
OnStage Playhouse in Chula Vista will host a second fundraising production this summer to help raise money to support the theater company’s operations.
“Mugre,” a world premiere play written by OnStage board member Salomón Maya, is the story of three hardworking young men — Pancho, Jerónimo and Pato — working at a South Bay car wash and facing life choices, generational differences, family issues and more.
“I wrote ‘Mugre’ to speak directly to my culture and beautiful South Bay community — the duality of living in a vibrant border town where speaking two languages wasn’t a luxury but rather a necessity. I’m so proud that ‘Mugre’ makes its professional debut at such an intimate space like OnStage and, best yet, one that speaks directly to the people walking the streets of downtown Chula Vista,” Salomón said.
