LEE COUNTY, Fla. — Two thieves were arrested after they stole a golf cart from a boat store in Fort Myers in the middle of the night. It was all caught on video by security cameras.

Justin Fricke is the manager of Fish Tale Boats off of South Tamiami Trail in Fort Myers.

He said he got a call from his overnight security guard letting him know one of his golf carts was missing on Thursday morning.

He said that’s the last thing he’d expect to be stolen at a boat store.

He checked his security footage and lo and behold there it was, a thief stealing one of his golf carts.

“He clearly had a sweatshirt over his head so he wasn’t visible on the cameras,” Fricke said.

Jonathan Bauer, 39, not only escaped and got past an overnight security guard undetected, but also managed to start the golf cart and drive away in less than two minutes… but not without some damage.

On his way out Bauer drove the golf cart in between two boats and hit one of them, scratching the side. Lee County deputies (LCSO) said he also broke a cable fence so he could exit.

“I wouldn’t have thought to go that way out of my property, here there’s a lot of easier ways to get out but they definitely did a creative way to get out,” said Fricke.

LCSO said Bauer wasn’t the only one involved. A woman, Holly Taylor (40), was waiting for him outside.

The pair of thieves made it nearly seven miles down the road before they were caught. They drove the golf cart down the sidewalk from Fort Myers all the way to Estero.

That’s when a deputy decided to pull them over because several golf carts have been stolen recently.

LCSO said the suspects tried to run away but were eventually caught and arrested on Pelican Sound Drive.

Fricke said when he called the Lee County Sheriff’s Office to report the robbery, they already had his golf cart and the duo in custody.

“It’s over in forensics right now and I’ll probably be getting it back maybe tomorrow,” said Fricke.

His message to the thieves, “don’t ever come back.”
