KERNERSVILLE, N.C. — Many more people in the Triad will have a Thanksgiving dinner thanks to Mount Moriah Bread of Life Food Pantry’s turkey drive.

What You Need To Know

  • The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services reports 1.2 million people around the state suffer from food insecurity
  • Mount Moriah Bread of Life Food Pantry partnered with Second Harvest Food Pantry to serve food to more than 500 people
  • In recognition of National Hunger Homeless Awareness Week, the Greater N.C. Black Chamber of Commerce provided turkeys to include with the November donation

Every third Saturday of the month, the Kernersville nonprofit serves more than 500 people in the community, and the week before Thanksgiving, the organization partnered with the Greater N.C. Black Chamber of Commerce to provide turkeys for families.

Recipients like Jasmine Jeffers says she is thankful for the help, especially during the holidays.

“For those who can’t afford it, it helps us be able to eat,” Jeffers said.

Bishop Todd Fulton has been coordinating food giveaway days at the pantry for 10 years.

Recently, he says he has seen an increase in the number of people in need.

“We saw a definite influx, an uptick of people coming out last month because of the economy and inflation,” Fulton said.

He says the turkey donations came from the chamber and its partner, Second Harvest Food Bank.

“Whenever we can get out and get food to our community, it’s a blessing,” he said.

According to a report released by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services in April, about 1.2 million people around the state suffer from food insecurity.
