Tropical Storm Franklin moving over D.R

One tropical storm remains in the Atlantic basin along with two other areas for potential development.

Tropical Storm Franklin holds on as a tropical storm as it moves over the Dominican Republic and the mountainous terrain of Hispaniola.

Heavy rainfall will continue to fall through Thursday, which could bring life-threatening flash flooding and mudslides across Hispaniola. After Franklin moves away from Hispaniola, it is forecast to become a hurricane later in the week.

Lastly, the NHC is monitoring two areas in the tropical Atlantic. The wave west of the Cabo Verde Islands (near the coast of Africa) has decreased development chances. While moving west-northwest across the eastern and central Atlantic, the area has a marginal chance of developing later this week or the weekend as a tropical depression.

The remnants of former Tropical Storm Emily are forecast to move northward into the subtropical central Atlantic where the re-development of a tropical depression or storm is possible by Friday or Saturday. If it did re-develop, it would go back to the name Emily.

Southwest Florida will not be affected by any of these systems.

Make sure you have a plan in place if and when a storm threatens our area and stay tuned to ABC7 as we continue to track the tropics around the clock.
