COCHRANTON, Pa. — Trusted Company, believed to be the last living daughter of 1973 Kentucky Derby winner Secretariat, has died at 34.

Patricia McQueen, an equine photographer who also wrote a book on Secretariat’s legacy and offspring, posted the news of Trusted Company’s passing on Facebook.
“I knew it was inevitable. After all, it’s the rare Thoroughbred that makes it past 30 years, let alone past 34. Still, having to say farewell to the delightful Trusted Company even at her advanced age is hard,” McQueen said in her post.
Trusted Company lived out her final years on a small horse farm in rural Pennsylvania about an hour outside of Erie. Bright Futures Farm, ran by Bev Dee, is the home to many elderly horses. Company, as Dee often called her, came to the farm in 2018 after her last owner was unable to care for her anymore.
Dee told Spectrum News 1 earlier this year this happens often with aging horses.
“They fall through the cracks, they get shipped off to slaughter in other countries, it’s horrible. No animal should have to go through that,” Dee said.
Before his death in late 1989, Secretariat sired around 600 foals. Trusted Company was born that same year on Valentine’s Day.
