Two people have died after a car explosion at a checkpoint near Rainbow Bridge, which connects the US with Canada, the Associated Press reported, citing local authorities. An eyewitness at the scene, Mike Guenther, said: ‘We see this car coming down towards the border and he was flying over 100mph … He went up into the air and we’ve just seen a fireball. That’s all we could see … It was covered in smoke everywhere.’
Speaking in parliament, the Canadian prime minister, Justin Trudeau, said four border crossings between the US and Canada had been closed as a result of the explosion. Law enforcement agencies on both sides of the border said they were investigating the causes
