Vancouver police say they’ve arrested a convicted killer who was in breach of his parole last week.

Elwood Poorman signed out of his halfway house on July 16 and did not return, as is required by his court-ordered conditions.

The VPD says the 42-year-old was arrested in the Downtown Eastside on Monday, July 22, and “taken back to jail.”

On Friday, July 19, police had issued a Canada-wide warrant for Poorman. They said at the time that the man “has a history of committing violent offences.”

Poorman pleaded guilty in 2020 to manslaughter in the 2018 death of a man in Port Coquitlam.

He was arrested days after the death of Jonathon Shingoose, who was found seriously hurt and later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
