A vehicle fire stunned travelers at San Francisco International on Aug. 2 along the curb outside Terminal 2 near the taxi queue.
Reddit user u/femme-electrique posted a clip that captured what appeared to be a black SUV with its entire engine on fire.
“It looks really bad,” the cameraperson said.
The fire occurred around 10 p.m. Airport spokesperson Doug Yakel told SFGATE that a woman was picking up her husband when she felt heat beneath her feet and pulled over to the curbside area. She called the San Francisco Fire Department, who arrived to extinguish the flames while the San Francisco Police Department diverted roadway traffic to the outer lanes.
No injuries or structural damage to the building columns was reported, and Yakel said the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
SFGATE reached out to SFFD for an update on what caused the fire but did not hear back by press time.
This wasn’t the first vehicle fire to occur at SFO this year. In March, SFFD responded to a vehicle fire at the airport after a car caught fire on the fifth level of the parking garage and caused damage to two additional cars. There were no injuries, and the cause of the fire was not revealed.
