NAPLES, FLA. –A Vietnam War Veteran’s home was completely destroyed inside by a fire Sunday night.

The fire happened around 10:00 p.m. off 1861 Golden Gate Boulevard in Golden Gate Estates.

Donald Cline, 72, said he was in his kitchen when he felt heat getting hotter and hotter on his back.

“I walked into the corner and turned in the laundry room flames were shooting out of the laundry room,” said Cline. “It will hit me tomorrow, but I am very upset, very disappointed, very low right now, but I’m strong I’ll make it through the night I’ll be ok, I just need to see the daylight.”

Cline said the only money he had was in the house.

“I’ve got 3 TVs, and I’m gonna miss every one of them. I watch a lot of Western that helps me pass my time. I will not ask nobody for nothing. I already have. I am not that way. I’m out to help people, not take from people.”

The Westbound lanes of Golden Gate Boulevard were closed between 17th St NW and 19th St. for about an hour while firefighters battled the flames.

Officials are still determining the cause of the fire.
