LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Former L.A. County Sheriff Jim McDonnell will be the new chief of the Los Angeles Police Department, Eyewitness News has learned.

Mayor Karen Bass was expected to make a formal announcement Friday morning.

Michel Moore retired as chief of the LAPD earlier this year. Dominic Choi had been serving as the interim chief since then.
