Band performed in lieu of Roan, who backed out of the fest to “prioritize my health”

Muna covered Chappell Roan’s “Good Luck, Babe!” during their headlining set at All Things Go festival in Columbia, Maryland at Merriweather Post Pavilion on Sunday. It was an appropriate cover to choose, given that the band replaced Roan, who bowed out of her headlining spots at the fest’s New York edition held at Forest Hill Stadium on Saturday in addition to the Sunday set.

“Obviously we know it was not us that you were expecting to see today, it was Chappell,” Muna’s Katie Gavin said onstage on Sunday. “And we fucking love Chappell Roan… We would really love for you guys to sing with us and I don’t know, this is a group exercise in her our love. She really deserves it.”

The band then dedicated their cover of Roan’s megahit, “Good Luck, Babe!” to the singer. Their slowed-down, pretty acoustic rendition became a sing-along with the audience, as footage from the show highlights.

On Friday, Roan announced that she was “unable to perform” at both shows, and cited her health and the “overwhelming” past few weeks.

“I am really feeling it,” Roan wrote in the post announcing the cancellation of her sets over the weekend. “I feel pressures to prioritize a lot of things right now and I need a few days to prioritize my health.”

“I want to be present when I perform and give the best shows possible. Thank you for understanding,” she continued. “Be back soon.”

Over the last several weeks the star has set boundaries between her private and public personas, addressing the “nonconsensual physical and social interactions” some fans have subjected her to. In Roan’s cover story for Rolling Stone, she discussed how she had a stalker that appeared at her parents’ home and her New York hotel room, which prompted her to hire security. This past week, she also made headlines after she was accused of supporting Donald Trump for not explicitly endorsing Kamala Harris. In a TikTok, she clarified that she would vote for the vice president.
