Kaitlyn Torpey and Amirah Ali scored and the San Diego Wave remained undefeated in Concacaf W Champions Cup play with a 2-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps FC in Canada.
San Diego outshot Vancouver 15-0 in the first half but had nothing to show for it. In the 59th minute, Torpey, an Australian import, scored her first goal as a member of the Wave with a toe poke to the back of the net.
Eight minutes later, Ali — who had just subbed into the game — made it 2-0, with Hanna Lundkvist notching the assist.
The Wave improved to 3-0 in Champions Cup play, which does not count in the National Women’s Soccer League standings. They return to league play Saturday with a match at the North Carolina Courage. Their Champions Cup play continues Oct. 16 with a 7 p.m. match against Club America Femenil.
