Robert Fico, Slovakia’s prime minister, was shot Wednesday in a shock attack that left him seriously wounded and hospitalized.
Fico, 59, was attending a government meeting in the town of Handlova, about two hours east of the Slovak capital, Bratislava. In videos of the incident, he is seen shaking hands with people across a metal barrier when a man appears to start shooting at close range. Five shots ring out before the attacker is tackled by security. Officials said a suspect is in custody.
