Conservation of only 10 percent of water used for agriculture in the state would double the urban supply! Large corporate farms have socialized their main cost of production — water — and privatized the profit from what should be a public asset. They convert the water into almonds and raisins, export them to the world and pocket the profits. They are exporting California’s water while urban water rates skyrocket and we are now being taxed to spend more money to increase our conservation.
Our state government has surrendered to corporate greed. Our leaders ignore the ag elephant and hammer the 40 million residents who use a relatively small part of the available water supply.
