Wild About SWFL: Sea Turtle Nesting

We are in the heart of sea turtle season here in SWFL, which goes until October 31, and it’s been a great year so far.

As of June 23, The Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation counted 785 nests. In 2022 at this time, there were 514.

SCCF goes out every night to monitor the beach to document all the nesting sea turtles and back out early in the morning to check out any new nests on the island.

4 teams will split up across the 18 miles of coastline of Sanibel and Captiva to look for successful nests from the night before or any false crawls.

SCCF helps the sea turtle population by monitoring these nests along with other research which keeps turtle populations coming back for generations to come.

SCCF is always looking for volunteers if you’re wanting to help out with conservation efforts!
