WWE SmackDown Winners and Grades

Sami Zayn And Kevin Owens Def. Pretty Deadly

Pretty Deadly has added a disco ball to their entrance and it’s perfect.

Fans were unanimously behind Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens, which was only surprising because the British Pretty Deadly was competing in the O2 Arena.

Pretty Deadly had a very good opening match against Sami Zayn and KO, but it’s just too early for them to be champions right now. It won’t be too early for too much longer, though.

Zayn and Owens vs. Pretty Deadly Grade: B

Austin Theory Def. Ridge Holland

Ridge Holland walked out in a Rugby jersey and Rugby-inspired red and blue ring gear.

Fans were not as into this match as I thought they would be given the combination of the O2 Arena and a hometown babyface in Ridge Holland.

By way of Ridge Holland, Wade Barrett dubbed a spinning Dragon Sleeper from Holland as a “Yorkshire Merry-Go-Round.”

This was a non-title match, in Ridge Holland’s home country of England, and if Ridge won he would earn a future U.S. title match. So you could only imagine my surprise when Ridge lost out of nowhere when Austin Theory targeted his sore throat.

Austin Theory vs. Ridge Holland Grade: C+

Bayley Def. Shotzi

The story of this match was fans doing the “Hey Bayley” chant and WWE announcers, Superstars, etc. doing their best to ignore them.

Bayley won a relatively quick match, one that Vince McMahon and Co. delivered on, but you likely won’t be reading any dirtsheet reports on that.

Bayley vs. Shotzi Grade: C

Logan Paul On The Grayson Waller Effect

Logan Paul, who plans to put “championship gold around [his] belt,” called Grayson Waller “Grayson Nolan,” which I’m not sure was intentional or if he legitimately forgot Waller’s last name.

In a surprise to nobody, LA Knight was massively over in London, while Logan Paul was booed every time he spoke.

Paul had some serious bars for LA Knight, calling him “mega-manager” and saying he was a failed manager in WWE after 20 years of a lackluster career.

This segment mirrored the Money in the Bank parade from Raw last week, just in a different order with SmackDown stars. The segment ended similar to the Raw segment, with Butch pouncing Logan Paul.

Poor Santos Escobar was peppered with “what” chants during his turn.

Grayson Waller Effect Grade: B-

Butch Def. Santos Escobar And LA Knight

Santos Escobar tried to get fans to chants “LWO,” but they were too busy singing “oooh LA Knight…”

Butch became the first UK-based wrestler to score a win in London, further suggesting LA Knight is going over tomorrow.

Butch secured the Money in the Bank briefcase after the match, suggesting he has no shot tomorrow.

Butch vs. Santos Escobar and LA Knight Grade: C+

Asuka vs. Charlotte Flair Ends in a No Contest

Bianca Belair was banned from ringside, but instead of pulling a Don Callis and showing up anyway, she bought a ticket and showed up ringside.

There were issues with Charlotte vs Asuka almost immediately with the two seeming to be on different pages. Perhaps Charlotte does get ring rust afterall.

Charlotte Flair missed Asuka, and honestly, missed Bianca with a big boot, though she was supposed to connect so Bianca sold it.

Bianca was initially booed for getting involved in this match, forcing a DQ, but fans chanted “one more time” after she delivered a KOD to Asuka on the table. Bianca then stacked Charlotte with a second KOD.

Asuka vs. Charlotte Flair Grade: C

Bloodline Civil War Confrontation

There was an excellent video package documenting the Bloodline’s journey, and evne the royalty free David Attenborough narrator was on point.

Interestingly enough, Cody Rhodes vs. Dominik Mysterio was promoted as the main event.

Even in London, Roman Reigns can’t escape the vaunted “what” chants.

Roman Reigns said he’s willing to give his cousins additional chances, which won’t pay off tonight, but may be a thing a few months from now when WWE needs to continue stretching out this Bloodline story until WrestleMania 40.

The Usos teased that Roman Reigns was going to get pinned tomorrow night at Money in the Bank, which I don’t think was just said ingest.

The Usos teased Solo Sikoa becoming the new tribal chief, leading to fans singing for Solo.

The Bloodline brawled as SmackDown went off the air, but they will resume in just a few short hours because Money in the Bank airs at noon PST.

Bloodline Civil War Grade: B+
