Rocklin Donuts & Cinnamon in Rocklin, Calif., was named Yelp’s top doughnut shop in the country.
Muoi H. via YelpFriday is National Doughnut Day, and if you’re not beelining to Krispy Kreme or Dunkin’ for a free doughnut, perhaps you’re more interested in somewhere local. Yelp released its 2023 list of the top 100 U.S. doughnut shops just in time for the holiday, and a Northern California shop was awarded the No. 1 spot.
That honor went to Rocklin Donuts & Cinnamon, a mom-and-pop doughnut shop in Sacramento suburb Rocklin. The shop serves everything from apple fritters to pecan sticky buns to doughnut holes, but it is best known for its warm, freshly frosted cinnamon rolls.
“The donuts are perfect and I don’t even like donuts much,” raved one Yelper. “I’d say I’d be a donut fan if they all tasted like this spot.”
A number of Bay Area spots also made the list’s top 20. Coming in at No. 7 was The Jelly Donut in San Francisco, a family-run spot in the Mission District since 1987. It’s known for its jelly doughnuts, which come in mango, apple, lemon, raspberry, pineapple and more. No. 8 was Stan’s Donut Shop in Santa Clara, an institution open since 1959 that is beloved for its glazed doughnuts and other classics.
Milkbomb Ice Cream in San Francisco, which serves doughnut buns filled with ice cream and finished with toppings such as rainbow mochi and Cinnamon Toast Crunch, came in at No. 20. And in Sacramento, late-night spot Marie’s Donuts was awarded No. 17.
