Actor, writer and filmmaker Honey Lauren (“Deadwood,” “Bram Stoker’s Dracula”) has set the cast for her feature directorial debut “Mistake.”

The indie drama stars Dominic Bogart (“American Primeval,” “The Glass Castle,” “The Birth of a Nation”), Matt Bogart (“Jersey Boys Live!”), Emmy winner and Golden Globe nominee Kay Lenz (“House”), Brett Cullen (“Joker,” “The Dark Knight Rises”) and Jiji Hise (“The Ballad of Buster Scruggs”) alongside Lauren.

The film follows Larry Benson (Dominic Bogart) who is born intersex in the deep south in 1941. His parents must choose, boy or girl. With hormone treatment Larry is raised as a man. The deep south is anything but an understanding environment in which to realize that a mistake has been made.

Brandon Keener (“Hustlers,” “The Purge: Anarchy”), Cameron Deane Stewart (“Pitch Perfect,” “The Geography Club”), Natalie Makenna (“Osprey,” “Chopped”), Rachel Alig (“First Blush,” “The Cleaning Lady”), Elaine Alexander (“Euphoria”, “Devil’s Island”), Michael Villar (“Skin”, “Barry”), Jennifer Daily (“Casual”), Max Emerson (“Single All the Way”), Carrie Gibson (“Hollywood”, “The Politician”) and Jaime Gallagher (“Nightshade,” “Red Wing”) round out the supporting cast.

Brad Wyman (“Monster”), Erik Bakken and Davey Robertson are serving as producers. Production is underway in Kentucky and Los Angeles.

“Mistake” has been recognized at various script competitions and aims to explore gender intimately, while telling a story of alienation, identity and love. Lauren previously wrote and directed the acclaimed shorts “Dot Got Shot,” “Happy Hands” and “Wives of the Skies.”

Lauren is represented by Allied Artists Management and Park Artists Group, Bogart is by Headline Talent Agency and LINK Entertainment, Lenz by BRS, Gage Talent Agency and Sneak Preview Entertainment while Cullen is with Innovative Artists and Matt Bogart is with BRS and Gage Talent Agency.
