Coastal communities including Long Beach are preparing for unusually high tides this week, with a coastal flood advisory in effect through 1 p.m. Thursday.

The National Weather Service's forecast of roughly 7.5 to 8 feet accounts for elevated sea levels and storm-related effects, meaning water could exceed the astronomical tide chart and approach the 7.93-foot record at San Pedro.

Officials expect minor flooding of walkways, parking areas and bike paths near the shore.
